Words fail to describe the awesome and terrible might of the Earth. Forces that can move the heaviest stones, carve the deepest canyons, and level the tallest mountains have used their unspeakable power to shape an ineffably beautiful world—a world which has been bestowed upon all of us as our dominion, our destiny, and our home, fearsome as it may be.

The modern orchestra, in my opinion, is one of the closest artistic representations of the natural world: from the smallest sound and purest beauty to the loudest, most earth-shattering force, the dynamic and coloristic range of this ensemble is unparalleled. This piece seeks to capture, using the aforementioned capabilities of the orchestra, a fearful reverence for the world in which we live.
