Patterns of Flight is an ode to the majestic travels of our feathered friends. Each fall, billions of American birds make their transcontinental escape from the unforgiving northern winter. Like brilliant machines, their flocks migrate as one; yet their elegance in flight is unmatched by technology. Though these migratory birds travel thousands of miles in their short lives, they return each year to the same place from which they left, as if they had never been gone at all. It is this cyclic journey—a yearly winged exodus—that ushers in both the chilling death of winter and the golden rebirth of spring.
